Depression Treatment Center

Depression is a mental disorder where clients’ quality of life is significantly hindered due to long-lasting or intense low moods. Clinical depression is not to be mistaken with occasionally feeling depressed, which is a healthy and understandable response. It poses health risks to clients by exposing them to suicidal tendencies, other dangerous behaviors, and physical ailments such as low energy and lowered immunity. La Ventana’s depression treatment centers in Thousand Oaks and Agoura Hills are trained and certified to help clients stabilize their mood and raise their quality of life.

Types of Depression:

The combination of physical health, cerebral balance, and external stressors means that no two people suffer depression in the exact same way. Identifying the type of depression that a client has – along with factors that catalyze said depression – is an important step to establishing an individualized health care plan for the client. Types of depression include:

  • Major Depression: Major depression involves depressive moods that last for two weeks or longer. Major depression is often associated with low energy levels and loss of interest in favorite activities.
  • Persistent Depressive Disorder: Persistent depressive disorder involves depression that lasts for two years or more. The depression is not as intense as major depression, but its extended duration is far more exhausting.
  • Bipolar Disorder: Clients with bipolar disorder shift between “high” moods marked by elevated moods and dangerous behaviors and “low” moods involving low energy and low motivation.
  • Seasonal Affective Disorder: Seasonal affective disorder occurs during winter months as clients become adversely affected by the limited sunlight and hostile weather.
  • Perinatal Depression: Perinatal depression is depression associated with the effects of pregnancy and afterbirth.
  • Perimenopausal Depression: Perimenopausal depression is triggered by the onset of menopause. The combination of changes to women’s bodies and the emotional responses to said changes can trigger depressive states.
  • Premenstrual Dysmorphic Disorder: Premenstrual dysmorphic disorder (PMDD) is depression that occurs during women’s periods. Though the depressive phases often end when the period ends, the severity of the symptoms warrant treatment.
