“I could not have done it alone” is one of the most common responses we hear from our clients when asked about their recovery.

At La Ventana we recognize that recovery is a life-long commitment and without a community support system it becomes extremely difficult to maintain one’s recovery.

The La Ventana program provides a safe environment where our clients share their life stories, their love, and learn to open up while supporting others with their recovery. Our Alumni Program provides our clients with an outlet to use their acquired life skills and tools to live in recovery for the remainder of the lives. It also offers an opportunity to create a solid support community. The alumni group helps maintain this support community by staying engaged with others in recovery and to provide and give support to each other. This is a transition from our safe treatment environment to the real world.

Friends are made and a community support system, in addition to family, is established creating a sense of connection to a world that is healthy, positive and promotes their recovery.

The Alumni program may be looked at as a form of aftercare providing ongoing support from other clients who have gone through the La Ventana program. It is also an avenue to “give back” to others by providing support and encouragement with their recovery. The Alumni program also provides an opportunity to maintain contact with some of the La Ventana staff.

There is data to support alumni programs which offer a reduction in ongoing psychiatric symptoms, a reduction in substance abuse and longer recovery time. In addition, this can lead to residential stability creating a positive and healthy long term lifestyle.

At La Ventana, we offer alumni meetings, alumni outings and a private alumni Facebook page only accessible to alumni and a few staff. This keeps our alumni in communication with each other which strengthens their recovery community support system. It also provides clients with a health social media outlet to share their life with others who understand the challenges of recovery.

We have monthly outings which are fun and assists alumni in creating new social skills as they learn to meet and interact with new people. Alumni support of others helps reduce stress as alumni are encouraged by others to attend and just have a good time. Support is offered in a friendly environment helping clients with their continued triggers while managing anxiety and sobriety.

We encourage all alumni to join and become part of our “La Ventana Family.”

The La Ventana program provides a safe environment where our clients share their life stories, their love, and learn to open up while supporting others with their recovery.
